Nazgol Bagheri

Bio

Nazgol Bagheri is an Honors College Romo Endowed Professor, and an associate professor of Geography in the department of Political Science and Geography at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is also the graduate program coordinator for the geography and environmental sustainability program and the director of the Critical Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Research Laboratory. As an award-winning teacher, she teaches a diverse set of courses including GIS and urban design. Bagheri’s current work connects three complementary areas: feminist politics, urban design, and the social production of space. She applies empowering Geo-Ethnographic approaches – combining GIS and qualitative data analysis – to challenge and enrich the Anglo-American hegemonic geographical theories by studying the people whose stories are often unheard including women, children, and other minorities. Her articles have appeared in Journal of Cultural Geography, GeoJournal, Papers in Applied Geography, The Geography Teacher, Journal of Social and Cultural Geography, and Gender, Place, & Culture.
