Storytelling Across Modern Platforms

Looking for an exciting way to complete an Honors College Experience outside of a course? Interested in learning how to master professional storytelling for personal and professional branding across mediums?

A team of no more than 10 students will work directly with Professor Kimberly Maldonado, Associate Vice President for Strategy and Executive Communications in the Office of the President at UTSA, to will explore how to develop, edit, pitch and present their own stories, or the stories of those who inspire them, across various modern platforms.

This experience will guide students through lessons, Adobe certifications, and hands-on experiences to build professional storytelling skills that will increase confidence in professional presentation and communication. Students will spend at least 75 hours on hands-on activities to fulfill three major components, including:

  1. Developing a proposal for a podcast episode;
  2. Pitching and presenting the podcast proposal to a professional panel; and
  3. potentially bringing the proposal to life by co-hosting and producing a podcast episode on the San Antonio Report’s podcast - Small Town Big City.

Does that sound like fun? Then you should apply! Participation is open to Honors College students in good standing who meet the following criteria:

  • Are not taking more than 15 credit hours in the Spring 2025 semester;
  • If taking 15 SCH, are not taking 0 SCH Honors 101;
  • Can commit to 75 hours outside of class to this project. This is critical. You will be working with community partners through an agreement with the Honors College; you will represent UTSA. The Guided Experience is as serious as a course;
  • Have a demonstrated interest in communications, storytelling, public speaking, and branding;
  • Are effective and efficient team players;
  • Have excellent time management skills;
  • Are able to adapt to rapidly changing conditions;
  • Can meet 2-3 times per semester.
