Financial Planning & Investment Strategies for Today’s Retirees

Spring 2025 Guided Experience

Applications are due by 5:00PM on Friday, January 31st , and short interviews will be conducted on February 6-7th . Final decisions will be emailed by Monday, February 10th.

Looking for an exciting way to complete an Honors College Experience outside of a course? Interested in learning what it takes to be a Wealth Advisor?

A team of no more than 10 students will work directly with Jake Falcon, CRPC™, CEO Falcon Wealth Advisors, to build and deliver a comprehensive financial plan. Students will spend at least 75 hours on hands-on activities, such as:

  • Explore the common concerns of pre-retirees
  • Understand the emotional aspects that are involved with retirement
  • Interview individuals approaching retirement to discover pain points
  • Learn the common rules associated with retirement accounts and government benefits
  • Look at asset allocation at a high level to understand how proper portfolio construction is managed
  • And much more!

Does that sound like fun? Then you should apply! Participation is open to Honors College students in good standing who meet the following criteria:

  • Are not taking more than 15 credit hours in the Spring 2025 semester;
  • If taking 15 SCH, are not taking 0 SCH Honors 101;
  • Can commit to 75 hours outside of class to this project. This is critical. You will be working with community partners through an agreement with the Honors College; you will represent UTSA. The Guided Experience is as serious as a course.
  • Have a demonstrated interest Wealth Management and Finance
  • Are effective and efficient team players;
  • Have excellent time management skills;
  • Are able to adapt to rapidly changing conditions;
  • Can meet weekly for 50 min virtual meetings.
