Must have a UTSA cumulative GPA 3.5 or higher and be in Good Standing with the Honors College upon graduation and complete the following:

  1. The Civic Ethos (1 semester credit hour)
    • HON 2301 Honors: The Civic Ethos
  2. The Tutorial Sequence (3-7 semester credit hours)
    • HON 2983 Honors Tutorial I
    • HON 3984 Honors Tutorial II (there is a 0 SCH option for this course)
  3. 5 required experiences from the below categories (0-22 semester credit hours)
    • The First-Year Experience (Honors AIS 1203)*
    • Service (HON 3103 or HON 3533)*
    • Professional Development (HON 3203, HON 4933, or HON 4936)*
    • Research and Intellectual Achievement (HON 3313 or HON 4993)*
    • Cultural Exploration (HON 3951 or HON 3403)*
    • Engaged Living (HON 3503)*
    • Skill Development (HON 3603)*
    • Interdisciplinary Seminar (HON 3223, HON 3233, HON 3243 or HON 3253)
    • Leadership (HON 4403, HON 4941 or HON 4951)*
    • Independent Study (HON 4913 or 3 credits of Honors Independent Study in any discipline)
    • Elective (any HON class or honors section of a course that does not count toward any other experience)
    • Double Major/Honors Program (complete 2 UTSA majors or graduate from a 2-year honors program before entering UTSA)
  4. Complete a 6th Experience from the above list, HON 4984 Honors Tutorial III, or all of the requirements for the College of Business Honors Program.

All requirements marked with an asterisk (*) can be completed using an alternative to taking the HON course. These alternatives may include UTSA Activities Designated as Honors Experiences or self-designed Experiences. Honors Counselors will work with you to find the best pathway through Honors.

Opportunities within the Honors College

The Honors College offers students the opportunity to participate in a number of different programs to further expand knowledge, especially in the realms of professional development, leadership development, and public service. Special programs are fully integrated into the Honors College curriculum, making credit transfer simple and ensuring that students are working toward Honors requirements.
